With the summer coming and bathing suit season counting down, we at Hotwax are gearing up for our customers’ hair removal needs. Waxing isn’t just for aesthetics; it is also a healthy and clean way to care for your skin long after summer has passed. Here are some things you may not know about waxing.
- The hair grows back slower. Hair grows in three stages: anagen, catagen and telogen. Waxing will thin the hair; causing it to grow back finer, shorter, and weaker. With the hair pulled out directly from the root, it doesn’t grow back as quickly. Waxing disrupts this cycle so you’re not seeing the hair come back for about three weeks!
- Less ingrown hairs. Waxing removes hair from the root, so the end of the follicle maintains a natural beveled edge when the hair grows back. Shaving removes hair on a blunt edge, causing them to grow back with a vengeance—and the next day. Ingrown hair (hair that regrows back into the skin, causing red bumps). Proper exfoliation and moisturizing can help prevent ingrown hair. Talk to one of your estheticians at HotWax for suggestions on how to treat ingrown hair.
- Less inflammation. Shaving leads to chronic skin inflammation. The friction of the razor causes inflammation and discoloration. The skin reacts to inflammation by becoming thicker and melanocytes (pigment-making cells) become more active.
